Production of Interbrew UK’s Draught Bass will move from Coors Brewers to Marston’s Brewery when the current contract runs out in March 2005. Marston’s already produces Marston’s Pedigree and is renowned for brewing quality cask ale. Other drinks brewed at the site in Burton-upon-Trent include Marston’s Old Empire and Burton Bitter. The WDB Brands owned brewery will now be in charge of producing the 40 million pints of Draught Bass sold in the UK every year. WDB Brands is currently investing £2m in the site which draws water from its own wells. Interbrew UK chief executive officer Steve Cahillane said of the move: "We know that Marston’s has the combination of traditional craftsmanship, technical brewing expertise and commitment to quality necessary to ensure that our exceptionally high quality standards on Bass are met." Managing director of WDB Brands Alistair Darby said: "We are proud to be given the opportunity to brew one of Britain’s most famous and established cask ale brands."
