Brakes, the food supply company, has bought Pauleys, a next-day delivery service based in the United Kingdom.

The deal, which was for an undisclosed fee, will see Pauleys delivery service integrated into Brakes' fleet of 1,500 vehicles.

Brakes, which was recently bought by Clayton Dubilier and Rice, the equity group, said: "This is fantastic news for our customers and represents a very significant acquisition.

"It clearly demonstrates our new owners' commitment to not only maintaining our leading position in the marketplace, but also in driving the business forward."
