YO! Sushi, the privately-owned group led by Robin Rowland, has set out its growth ambitions for the US with plans to sign two or three further franchise agreements for up to 30 sites in the country by the end of this year. Alison Vickers, the group’s business development director, told QSR Magazine: “Our first American franchisee is a multi-unit, multi-concept franchisee who we believe will do a great job building the YO! Sushi brand in Washington DC. We are pursuing opportunities with similar franchisees in markets like Miami and Boston, and hope to continue growing through large multi-unit deals in major metropolitan areas across the US.” The company will open its first US site in Washington DC’s Union Station in April/May this year after signing a deal with the Sushi Company of North America. It will open up to 10 outlets, located between Washington DC and Philadelphia under the agreement. The group anticipates 12 locations being open and operating in the US by the end of 2013. A second site is expected to open in Washington DC later this year, as the chain focuses on the East Coast and other markets such as Chicago, Dallas, and Miami for its initial US expansion.
