Wahlburgers, the US brand owned by chef Paul Wahlberg in partnership with two of his brothers, actors Donnie and Mark, has confirmed it will make its UK debut in London this September, with plans to further expand here.

It hopes to open a total of 50 sites in the UK and Europe over the next five years. The burger chain plans to open up to five sites in central London, as well as others outside the capital and in Europe.

Mark Wahlberg said: “I am delighted to announce that Wahlburgers is coming to the UK and we have the best possible location, one of the most visited areas in all of the world – Covent Garden.”

MCA understands that the brand is working with Restaurant Property is explore further locations in the capital, with Canary Wharf, Shoreditch and King’s Cross on its requirements list, with sites near tube stations and railway stations preferred.

As far back as 2012, there was speculation that Wahlburgers was looking to launch in London. It is thought to be working with a franchisee for it UK launch.

Originally launched in the US, in Hingham, a town just outside the Boston area, the business last year signed agreements to open over 100 sites over the next five to seven years in the States.
