Wagamama, the Duke Street Capital-backed chain, will make its debut in Spain this April, in Madrid.

The company, which signed a franchise agreement last year with Grupo Vips to launch in Spain and Portugal, will open at number 41 on Madrid’s Serrano Street.

This first opening will be followed by another before the summer, also in Madrid, specifically in Genova Street.

“We’re really excited to bring a brand of such renowned international prestige and which is backed by twenty-five years of success to Spain,” said the brand’s managing director in Spain, Álvaro Salafranca. “Wagamama is a concept that seduced us from the beginning because of its strong brand identity, the quality and freshness of the food it serves and the passion with which its teams offer customers a different kind of experience.”

The company currently operates from 168 locations across 19 countries.

Brian Johnston, Wagamama’s international managing director, said: “It’s always exciting to be opening in a new country and we’re thrilled to be launching our first restaurant in Spain in April. Grupo Vips has huge experience in the region with a proven track record in developing and establishing international brands and we are delighted to be working with them.”
