Wagamama, the David Campbell-led chain, has lined up a further flagship opening in central London.

The group, which recently secured the restaurant unit at the 81 Dean Street development in Soho on the corner of Dean Street and Richmond Buildings, is believed to have lined up the former Amano and Caffé Fratelli sites at the Blue Fin building for an opening later this year.

Speaking last month, Campbell said: “Starting as an urban brand and going into New York got us thinking about London a bit more. It started in London, but it really hadn’t opened that many restaurants in London.”

To address that, Wagamama currently has “another four or five” London sites in the pipeline, Campbell said.

“As leases come up, we’ll get out of basements and out of slightly more obscure places and come above ground and recreate the brand as it is today within London.”

Earlier this year, the company appointed Stephen Boyce, currently head of property at Arcadia, as its new property director, as it looks to open c45 new sites over the next three years.

Boyce will join the c115-strong company later in the year, taking over from interim director of property John Ritchie.
