Vineet Bhatia, the Michelin-starred Indian chef, is to launch a new venture in the £13m Alea Casino set to open in Leeds in September. The British Indian Design Restaurant, which will be located in the casino at Clarence Dock owned by London Clubs International, will be the chef’s first site in the UK outside of the capital. The 90-cover restaurant will feature a theatre kitchen and a 16-seat private dining room. Bhatia told the Yorkshire Evening Post: “This will be my first restaurant in the UK outside London. “I am currently working on the menu and will be including one or two surprises with some Yorkshire culinary influences.” Bhatia runs the Rasoi in London, as well as sites in Mauritius, Geneva, Saudi Arabia, Moscow and Dubai. The £260m Clarence Dock scheme also comprises other restaurants and seven bars, with a Pizza Express and Bradford-based Mumtaz curry house set to open at the development next month.
