Gary Usher, the chef-restaurateur behind Sticky Walnut and Hispi, exceeded his £50,000 crowdfunding target for his new restaurant within an hour.
Usher launched his well-publicised 24-hour funding push on Kickstarter at 9pm last night. This morning, the total sits at £67,000 – from 967 backers.
The funds will go towards the opening of Pinion – a 55-cover bistro in Prescot, Merseyside – which is expected to open in the summer.
The launch of the restaurant will be filmed for a Channel 4 doucmentary.
Talking to MCA about the prospects for the site last month, Usher said: “There’s nothing going on. After 3.30pm there’s not a single person on the street.
“So why open there? I like the idea of being part of the regeneration of an area.
“But I can’t imagine it ever being busy. Could it drag us down? Yes, massively.
“There’s zero demand. I don’t know who’s going to go.”
