The Restaurant Group (TRG) has appointed Nick O’Donnell, formerly of Mitchells & Butlers (M&B), as head of operations for its recently acquired Food & Fuel business.

Food & Fuel, 11-strong London gastro-pub business, confirmed it had sold the entire share capital of the business to Brunning & Price, TRG’s expanding pub vehicle, last month for c£15m.

O’Donnell spent nearly eight years at M&B including a stint as a regional business manager in London for its Castle Pub division. Previous to that he worked at Geronimo Inns.

He will aid Brunning & Price’s managing director Mary Willcock in operating Food & Fuel and exploring further expansion opportunities for the business in the capital.

Food & Fuel was started in 2006 by Karen Jones, Jo Cumming and Peter Myers. Its pubs span Richmond, Chiswick, Pimlico, Marylebone and Kensington and include the iconic Sporting Page in Chelsea.

Brunning & Price currently operates 64 pubs, predominately within rural locations, with the acquisition of Food & Fuel giving them to opportunity to establish themselves in London.

MCA understands that it is currently ahead in the race to acquire Peach Pub Company in a c£25m deal.

Jones, Cumming and Myers will continue to operate and expand Frontier, the seven-strong joint venture with Ei Group and have established a new vehicle, Pioneer Hospitality.
