Expect up to 10 new Tortilla stores this year, managing director Richard Morris has told M&C.

A new store in Guildford will be the first new opening to add to Tortilla’s currently 27-strong chain, followed by two new stores in Scotland – one in Aberdeen and one in Glasgow, he said.

Tortilla’s first franchise operation alongside restaurant operating platform Eathos is also due to open this year - in April in Dubai – but Morris said he was not yet eyeing any other sites in the UAE.

“We’ve got one partner out there, we are happy with what we’re doing out there, we are just going to be doing the Middle East, we’ve not got any other plans for franchising anywhere else.”

Back in the UK, offers had been made on another three stores, but they had yet to be signed off on, Morris said.

“We should have half-a-dozen open by the half-year and hopefully we’re going to be doing up to 10 this year.”

Outside of the new store openings, Morris said he was currently recruiting for a new head of marketing.

“Otherwise, the team that I’ve got here now is pretty much the team that’s set to take us to 40-50 sites.”
