Mitchells & Butlers, Britain’s biggest managed pub group, is to serve cask ale at all of its Toby Carvery pub-restaurants. The company said the decision to stock cask ale was made following the integration of its restaurant division with its pubs and bars arm earlier this year. It hopes to see an increase on the 18% growth in cask ale sales that it posted in January. Each Toby Carvery will serve nationally recognised ale, along with a local brand. M&B said that cask ale would be available in the Toby estate by the end of April. A spokeswoman for the company said: “We will be serving a variety of different ales from Green King IPA, Thwaites Original to Deuchars IPA. “We will also serve more local ales where they are required. In a declining beer market, cask ale sales are doing pretty well and the decision to stock them is part of our emphasis on offering an experience that cannot be replicated at home. “A Toby Carvery offers great value and now it offers cask ale beer that can’t be consumed like that at home.”
