The Avocado Show

Instagram-friendly restaurant concept The Avocado Show has signed for 19 new franchise locations across the UK and Europe, including London, Madrid and Paris.

The Netherland-founded all-avocado concept has signed an area development for Central London with an undisclosed established retail and hospitality group with operations in the UK.

Matteo Frigeri of Seeds Consulting, who is working with ’pretty healthy food’ business on franchising, said there would be a minimum of three units in the next 20 months in London.

He told MCA offers had been made on a couple of sites, in target areas Soho, Covent Garden, Fitzrovia, Mayfair and Shoreditch.

They are also actively recruiting other partners for key cities and quality towns like Edinburgh, Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, Oxford, Cambridge, Guildford and Brighton.

The expansion will kick off with the opening of a new Avocado Show restaurant in Madrid, Spain, by the end of October.

Founded by Ron Simpson and Julien Zaal, last year The Avocado Show launched a pop-up at D&D London’s Bluebird, which they said would be used as a launch-pad for London expansion.

Co-founder Ron Simpson last year told MCA the brand was looking to establish a flagship full-service restaurant-café, followed by a series of smaller counter service formats.

He said: “We believe there’s room for a few – London is a very different animal from Holland. The way you guys commute, and demand convenience in food, express, takeaway is a whole different animal to us.

“The best thing for us to do is to test it and adapt it to a local’s view.”

He added: “We will start out as a niche concept – but I believe we will go further than the avocado. It’s our icon and the face of what we’re doing, but ‘pretty healthy food’ is what we do. If we have enough locations it won’t just be people looking for just avocado.”
