Telepizza, the Spanish delivery chain, has secured its first site in the UK, MCA has learnt.

The company, which operates c1,400 stores across 14 countries, is to open a unit at the Treaty Shopping Centre in Hounslow.

The group last year secured year signed a partnership with the Karali Group - one of the UK’s largest Burger King franchisees – which will see 80 new stores over the next decade. Telepizza is aiming to have a total of 300 sites in the UK by that point.

Giorgio Minardi, who is in charge of international expansion for the group, told MCA last year: ““I see scope in the UK delivery market. There are a lot of great pizzerias but only a few key players in the delivery market. All our research shows that our Mediterranean offer will give us a unique selling point that we can use to gain market share.

“We are in 14 countries and in pretty much all of them we are market leaders so we bring a lot of experience and a lot of skills. We know how to set up in a new territory and be successful.

“We want to be at least in the top three brands in the UK and we think we could eventually be number two. The leverage we have by all the manufacturing sourcing coming from Spain and controlling the quality means we can offer an alternative to the market.”
