TDR Capital, the private equity firm involved in the takeover of PizzaExpress last year, is working flat out to trump the bid from City Centre Restaurants for Ask Central, the Financial Times reports this morning Yesterday TDR announced it was considering a possible offer for Ask in excess of the price offered by City Centre, which changed its name last week toThe Restaurant Group. TDR, which is again working with the owners of the Nando's chicken restaurants, its partner in the PizzaExpress takeover, announced "positive progress" towards finalising a possible cash offer for Ask at a premium to the closing price of 190.5p. The announcement came after Restaurant Group said it had received acceptances from shareholders representing 46% of the company's stock when the first closing date for the offer passed on Monday. The company said it would now be extending the offer for seven days until 3pm on January 26. Restaurant Group is offering 66p cash and 1.54 of its shares, plus a 2.85p dividend, worth a total of 188.6p for each Ask share at yesterday's closing price of 773/4p.
