The founder of the Tapasya Indian restaurant and bar concept has told MCA he is restructuring the company to support expansion.

Tapan Mahapatra launched the first Tapasya in Hull in 2013 and in mid-September will open a larger second site in the city’s Fruit Market development. Mahapatra said £1m is being invested in the site, which will operate over two floors.

He told MCA that he plans further expansion of the concept and has already had conversations with potential backers to aid the rollout.

He has set up a separate company – TKM Hospitality Group – to oversee expansion of the restaurants and the catering company currently operated in Hull.

The latest site will feature an evolution of the offer with quick dishes designed for local office workers.

Mahapatra told MCA: “The inspiration for the first restaurant was that I wanted to take the kind of contemporary Indian dining experience you get in London into Hull. I think there is a great opportunity to do that in many areas.
