The Adil Group, which operates more than 120 KFC, Burger King and Costa Coffee sites across the UK under franchise, has plans to open “double-digit figures over the next five years” under the Taco Bell brand, after confirming a first site in the country for the concept.

As previously flagged up by MCA, the brand’s debut Scottish restaurant will open in Sauchiehall Street in Glasgow city centre in December. The Adil Group chief executive Raja Adil said: “We are incredibly excited to open the first Taco Bell in Scotland. We have big plans for expansion across the country, hoping to increase the number of Taco Bell stores in Scotland to double-digit figures over the next five years.”

Taco Bell Europe general manager Nick Dawson added: “Glasgow is the perfect place to start our march north and we look forward to welcoming Glaswegians through our doors to experience delicious Mexican-inspired food.”

Taco Bell, which is part of Yum! Brands, currently operates 18 sites in England and last week announced it would open a restaurant in York.

Dawson told MCA that the group believes there is potential to open “hundreds” of restaurants in the UK.

Having developed its brand and built up a supply chain the company is now looking to accelerate the pace of openings with plans to open five to 10 sites every year as it scales up.
