SSP UK & Ireland, the travel concessions operator, has appointed Peter Casey as its new chief operating officer, M&C Report understands.

Casey, who will start his new role next Monday, joins the company from the Home Retail Group where he was the stores director with Homebase.

Previous to that he spent 10 years at Aldi, where he had stints as regional managing director and store operations director.

He replaces Mark Rainbow, who has taken up the new role of chief operating officer for SSP’s Asia Pacific region, reporting to Chris Rayner, chief executive of SSP Asia Pacific.

Rainbow joined the UK business in 2008 as chief financial officer and took on the role of chief operating officer for UK and Ireland in 2012. He began his new role last month.

At the same time, the company has announced the appointment of Per Utnegaard as an independent non-executive director with effect from 1 July 2015. He will also serve as a member of the board’s Remuneration and Audit Committees.

Utnegaard has been group president and chief executive of Swissport International Ltd., the world’s leading provider of ground and cargo handling services to the aviation industry, since 2007.

Vagn Sørensen, chairman of SSP, said: “We are delighted to welcome Per to the Board. His significant management experience in a number of senior pan-European and global positions, as well as his substantial knowledge of the international airport sector, will be highly complementary to the balance of skills on our Board.”
