Som Saa, the Thai street food concept, which last year exceeded its crowdfunding pitch in just four days, will open its first permanent site in London’s Spitalfields in March.

The concept, which is the brainchild of Andy Oliver, Mark Dobbie and Tom George, will open at 43A Commercial Street initially for dinner only, but adding a brunch and lunch menu six weeks later.

The concept started as a pop up in Peckham before taking up residency at Climpson’s Arch, featuring a menu that brought together seasonal British produce with Asian ingredients in regional Thai dishes.

Last year, the business raised £700k through online crowdfunding platform Crowdcube over a target of £550k.

A total of 98 investors contributed to the campaign including £200k personal investment form the three founders.

Oliver told M&C that the trio always intended to find a permanent home for the restaurant and believes there is scope for a number of restaurant formats featuring Thai food. These include A1 noodle concepts, som saa bars or perhaps som saa som tam shacks.

Dean Gambles & Co acted on the Commercial Street deal.
