Spanish restaurant group Sagardi has confirmed it will open its first UK site, in Shoreditch, next month.
As first revealed by MCA in November last year, the group will open its 30th restaurant at Cordy House in Curtain Road.
The group, which specialises in traditional Basque food and drink, currently operates restaurants in Barcelona, Madrid, Valencia, Sevilla, Porto, Mexico City and Buenos Aires,
Grupo Sagardi was founded by Vitoria-born and bred Iñaki Viñaspre in Barcelona 18 years ago. The first Sagardi opened its doors in Barcelona in 1995.
Iñaki is Spain’s spokesperson for the cuisine of the Basque region and Sagardi works closely alongside the Basque Tourism Agency promoting Basque culinary culture.
He said: “I’m delighted to be opening Sagardi in Shoreditch. London gastronomy has hit fever pitch but over the last few years, restaurants have simplified, with the focus shifting to the quality of each individual ingredient. My region’s cuisine has always championed this practice and so hopefully Sagardi will find its natural new home here in London.”
