Russell Norman and Richard Beatty, the operators of London restaurants Polpo and Polpetto, are to finally open their third venue Spuntino in March at Rupert Street in Soho, writes Becky Paskin.

Russell Norman still holds the lease for Maiden Lane, the plans for which are still to be announced

After negotiations lasted well over eight months, the pair had walked away from the site on Rupert Street, securing the lease on an alternative location in Covent Garden instead - the former home of Pod on Maiden Lane.

The restaurateurs have since returned to their original pick of locations and plan to open the Italian-New York eatery on 14 March.

Norman said: “I’ve been thrilled by the tremendous excitement that has greeted Polpo. It’s clear that London has an appetite for fun dining. I hope everyone will find Spuntino just as exciting, and maybe a little surprising.”

The dishes at Spuntino will fall in line with those served at Polpo and Polpetto, but have a more American influence.

They include soft-shell crab with Tabasco aioli, meatball sliders, macaroni & cheese, and truffled egg toast.

The 25-cover restaurant will be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week, and will not be taking reservations.

Norman and Beatty continue to hold the lease for Maiden Lane, but told M&C Report “there are no further announcements as yet”.
