Red’s True Barbecue, the fast-growing barbecue chain, will make its debut in London this summer, after securing the Casa Negra site in Shoreditch.

The group, which hopes to add a further site to its estate by the end of the year, is to invest £1.4m on the 5,400sq ft site in Great Eastern Street, creating 150-covers split over two floors

The site will become the fifth opening for the group, which is understood to be in talks to secure funding to aid its expansion across the UK.

James Douglas, Red’s co-founder, said: “For the last two years we’ve worked hard to build a trusted brand portfolio serving more than 70,000 believers each month.

“London was always part of the strategy. Now with our strengthened management team, the time and location is right to strike. Unlike the north where a huge part of our role as brand leaders has been to educate customers about US barbecue, there is already a saliency here in London. We think we can capitalise on this with our authentic style, commitment to quality, great design and lively guest experience. Red’s will for sure bring something unique to Shoreditch.”

Earlier this year, it moved to strengthen its management team with the appointments of its first finance director and operations director.

Matt Snell joined the group as it new operations director from Fuller’s, while Craig Bell joined the company as its new finance director from the Ladhar Group, the 50-site bar and restaurant group.
