Pizza Rossa, the artisanal pizza by the slice concept from Corrado Accardi, is close to securing a site in a retail complex in east London as part of plans to introduce the concept to smaller sites, M&C Report has learnt.

Accardi said he is considering exiting one of Pizza Rossa’s City stores in favour of opening the pizza by the slice concept in sites that will offer seven-day trading and high footfall for longer hours.

“There are very high costs in running a shop in the high street and we see quite a lot of opportunities in smaller sites,” Accardi said. “We might have to take a view on keeping existing sites in the City or move out of one to go into another type of location.”

He said smaller venues are a key element of the ideas currently under consideration to allow Pizza Rossa to operate in spaces that do not have a kitchen but can be supplied from a central kitchen in Leadenhall.

In January Pizza Rossa reached and exceeded its fundraising target of £100,000 on the CrowdCube platform to expand the concept across London.

It raised the finances to expand opportunities for the brand including a concession stand in west London, growing its presence at street food markets and pop-up sites, festivals shopping centres and supermarkets.

In 2013 the group became the fastest growing UK brand to reach its crowd funding target when it raised £440k in just 17 days with its original campaign.
