A number of leading London-based operators are believed to be in talks to take units at the South St Andrew Square development in Edinburgh, M&C has learnt

The Standard Life Investments-led 195,000sq ft mixed-use development will include six “premium restaurant” units totalling 45,000sq ft.

M&C understands that deals are progressing on the scheme with the Big Easy and Dishoom, with Burger & Lobster, Iberica and STK also mooted as possible entrees to the city’s dining scene.

The £75m development at 3-8 St Andrew Square aims to breathe new life into a site which has lain vacant for 10 years.

The new build will also feature Standard Life Investments offices, a range of shops and residential space.

The South St Andrew Square website states that: “South St Andrew Square is a rare opportunity and the only one of its kind. South St Andrew Square presents a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, an exceptional address set to become Edinburgh’s extraordinary new restaurant destination.

“Nowhere else in Edinburgh offers this unique combination of spacious floorplates, enviable garden square location, and proximity to world-class companies, in one of the most desirable and connected areas of the city centre. This combination creates an extraordinary restaurant destination.”

The project is due to be complete by 2016.
