Nando’s Group Holdings, the operator of the Nando’s and Gourmet Burger Kitchen (GBK) chains, is seeking to further raise the profile of its eponymous chain with the appointment of a head of brand communications. The chain has started the search for senior marketer to head up its expanding marketing team to “work in partnership with leading agencies, (to) drive innovative, award-winning campaigns, which will light a fire in the bellies of our customers and Nandocas (that’s our people) alike”. The group recently secured three new sites for its eponymous brand, which will see its estate reach the 250 mark in the UK. The company, which is led in the UK by Rob Papps and currently operates 247 sites in the UK, signed new leases on three new outlets last month. The group is to open on the site of the former Lloyds bank unit in Great Portland Street, London; the former Chicago Rock Café in Braintree; and a former HMV in Peterborough. All three sites range in size between 2,000 and 3,000sq ft. The company is also understood to be looking at sites in central London, with the view of opening a new flagship restaurant later this year. Property advisor Davis Coffer Lyons acted on behalf of Nando’s on the three latest deals. Earlier this year, the company appointed David Niven as its global chief executive, as it looks to have 1,000 restaurants operating internationally under its eponymous brand by the end of 2011.
