Mowgli, the Liverpool-based Indian street food restaurant, is eyeing Leeds and Birmingham for expansion in 2016, M&C has learnt.

Founder Nisha Katona said the third site will likely open early next year and from the summer Mowgli will explore investment options to continue its rollout.

“We are looking at cities like Leeds and Birmingham for the next venue and towards the end of 2016 we would like to be in London,” Katona said.

The first Mowgli in Liverpool has celebrated its first anniversary and founder Nisha Katona said the proceeds from the restaurant enabled her to open Manchester this summer.

The second restaurant at the Corn Exchange is nestled between more established restaurant brands such as Wahaca and Pho.

Katona said the customer response to the original restaurant has given Mowgli to confidence that the UK is ready for her alternative style of Indian dishes.

“The ambition is to keep going until someone does it better than us!”

As well as launching the restaurants Katona has published her first recipe book – Pimp my Rice.
