MJMK Restaurants is to open a second venue in partnership with Santiago Lastra, the chef patron behind Michelin-starred modern Mexican concept Kol.
The Casa do Frango operator will launch another Mexican restaurant called Fonda on Mayfair’s Heddon Street.
Fonda is inspired by family-owned eateries serving traditional dishes in Mexico, and will showcase recipes from across the country, with a focus on classic dishes.
It will take from both Mexico’s artistic and culinary heritage, with the comal – a traditional clay griddle used for cooking corn masa – featuring in the restaurant.
In addition to Kol, MJMK operates the Lisboeta venue on London’s Charlotte Street as well as well as four Casa do Frango restaurants in the capital, with plans to expand the piri-piri chicken specialist concept.
Kol, which champions wild food and seasonality, was awarded one Michelin star in 2022 and featured on the list of World’s 50 Best Restaurants in 2023.
