Milan’s urban street food market Mercato Metropolitano , which launched in the UK in 2016, is understood to be in advanced talks to open a second site in the capital.
MCA understands that the market concept, which is led by founder Andrea Rasca, is in talks to open a food hall/market at the former St Mark’s church in North Audley Street, Mayfair.
In 2016, Westminster City Council approved plans to repair and restore the former church.
Landlord Grosvenor’s investment in St Mark’s, sees it creating amongst other things a 14,500sq ft of space for retail and hospitality.
Mercato invested £1.2m in a market at a three-storey, 45,000 sq ft building at Newington Causeway near Elephant & Castle station.
The market is based on the company’s Milan site, which serves 600,000 meals a month. It includes a bakery, fishmonger, pasta maker and butcher as well as a barber shop on an upper floor.
