McDonald’s has opened a trial grab-and-go store on Fleet Street in London, under the name: McDonald’s to Go.

McDonald's to Go self order screens

The store, which opened its doors yesterday (31 July) will focus on speed of service in order cater for the demands of busy London customers on the move, with a reduced menu available for takeaway only. There is no seating and smaller self-order screens.

Menu options currently include favourites such as McNuggets, Big Flavour Wraps and the Big Mac, and a selection of new salads will be trial later this year.

Takeaway bags and staff uniforms at the Fleet Street site also feature the new ‘To Go’ branding.

The fast food business, which is celebrating its 45TH year in the UK, said the McDonald’s To Go concept would allow them to trial different and flexible formats, dependent on location.

Henry Trickey, SVP development & IT, McDonald’s UK & Ireland, said: “It’s an exciting, but challenging time to been the restaurant sector. Changing tastes, new technology and more competition mean we need to continue to focus on investing in what matters most to our customer

“We know that ‘one size doesn’t fit all’ and that’s exactly why we are launching McDonald’s to Go – to allow us to trial different formats in different locations, depending on customer needs.

He continued: “In Fleet Street, where city workers are looking for something quick to grab on the go, it makes sense to test a smaller format - no seating and takeaway only with a reduced menu will allow us to focus on speed of service. However, the next McDonald’s to Go could look very different.”
