Serial restaurateur Des McDonald is opening Le Chalet, an Alpine-style roof top bar on top of Selfridges in mid-October as part of the store’s rooftop residency series.

Following on from On the Roof with Q during the summer, McDonald will turn the space into a winter playground above the streets of London

The restaurant is a sister-site to McDonald’s Q Grill, it will serve an Alpine-inspired barbeque menu as well as a crab and shellfish bar with a chocolate and cocktail bar alongside a log cabin.

The restaurant, which is inspired by a ski chalet, features wintry ferns, timber branches, and soft low lighting entwined with branches throughout. It will serve a range of wines, beer, cocktails and soft drinks, along with a hot chocolate cocktail bar serving ‘choctails’ and a cigar bar.

McDonald said: “I am delighted to be opening another rooftop concept, Le Chalet at Selfridges. On the Roof with Q was such a great success and we’re really excited to transform it for winter. We’ve got a great team at On the Roof with Q, and they will be delivering a truly unique Alpine-style BBQ menu for Le Chalet, inspired by Q Grill and paired with hearty, winter dishes.”

Meanwhile McDonald is opening Fish & Chip Shop serving ‘posh fish & chips’ at Liverpool Street next week, it will be followed by Q-Grill, McDonald’s bar & grill concept, will open its third site next door to the Fish & Chip Shop in November.

Nathan Herrmann, Selfridges food and restaurants director said: “We wanted to create an enchanted winter wonderland on the roof of Selfridges this Christmas. Customers to the roof will be greeted with a restaurant inspired by traditional ski lodges serving seasonal wintry dishes and an exceptional Hot Chocolate Bar. We are sure this winter wonderland will be a huge success with our customers looking for a truly magical dining experience”

The rooftop bar and restaurant will be open daily from 11am – 11pm from 22 October to late February on Oxford Street’s Selfridges.
