Chef and restaurateur Marco Pierre White has taken over Hampshire pub the Yew Tree, renamed Marco Pierre White’s Yew Tree Inn, situated near Highclere Castle.

The now-retired chef, along with Gourmet Holdings’ Gareth Lloyd-Jones and Andrew Guy bought the freehold for an undisclosed sum. Gourmet Holdings is responsible for the Bel, Dragon and Richoux brands.

White has overseen the creation of the new Yew Tree Inn menu, with Neil Thornley, formerly at gastropub The Crab at Chieveley, serving as head chef. The venue will feature two separate dining areas capable of 90 covers in total, with an emphasis on a pub, rather than restaurant, environment.

Pub classics like shepherd’s pie, Cumberland sausage and mash, and fish and chips with ‘pea purée’ will be available, while the likes of Normandy brown potted shrimps, eggs Benedict with sauce hollandaise, and Welsh rarebit will also be on offer.
