Marco Marco, the Italian restaurant business led by Stephen Garrity, the former Restaurant Group executive, has opened its fifth site and understood to have lined up a further opening near Liverpool.

The company, which last year secured a £3.5m investment from London-based private equity group Niton Partners, has opened its fifth site in Lichfield, its second site in Staffordshire, after it launched a unit in Stockton Brook last November.

It is also thought to have secured a former takeaway unit in a Liverpool borough for a further opening this summer.

The company, which launched three years ago and currently operates further sites in Northwich, Lymm and Marple Bridge, hopes to grow to up to 20 sites nationally over the next two years.

It is targeting small town and villages in the North West for its initial expansion push.
