Living Ventures, the Tim Bacon-led restaurant and bar group, could look to expand overseas and has trademarked its Australasia brand in Australia, the US and the Middle East.
Bacon revealed the move during a debate at the Northern Restaurant & Bar show.
Asked about plans to open in other countries, he said it’s a case of “never say never” but expressed concern about a “loss of control”. “It freaks me out, being a control freak,” Bacon said.
He said a joint venture would be a more likely route to opening overseas.
“If it does happen, it will happen on our terms. If it doesn’t happen I’m not going to lose any sleep over it,” Bacon said.
Living Ventures currently operates 11 sites in Manchester, and Bacon said: “I’ve got my mind on about 15 in the city of Manchester in total.”
Last week M&C reported that Bacon has secured the first site he ever owned in Manchester for a further opening under the New World Trading Company brand, The Botanist. The group, which is on target to add five more sites this year, has secured the JW Johnson’s outlet (now Label) in the city’s Deansgate area for an opening later this year.
