Leon is to make its Italian debut in Rome this October, as part of a partnership between SSP Group and Italian rail station operator Grandi Stationi.

The healthy fast food brand will open an outlet in Rome’s Termini Station, operated by SSP.

Italy marks Leon’s second international market, following a launch in the Netherlands. The business briefly operated three stores in Dublin, launched in 2019, but closed down operations in Ireland following the pandemic.

It currently operates four overseas locations in the Netherlands: two in Amsterdam, one in Rotterdam, and one in Utrecht.

The new site in Italy will offer wraps, rice boxes, and burgers, inspired by Mediterranean cuisine.

The launch also marks SSP’s entry into its 37th market. Its partnership with Grandi Stationi will further see it open Yo! Sushi, Italian casual dining concept Granaio, and sustainable gourmet concept EXKi at Rome Termini Station.

Jeremy Fennell, CEO of Continental Europe & Nordics at SSP, said: “We’re delighted to announce our entry into the Italian market and are certain that LEON, Yo!, Granaio and EXKi will prove highly popular with travelers at Rome Termini Station.

“At SSP, we have a strong track record in bringing great brands to travel locations and making them relevant to the local market. We’re certain this is the start of a very fruitful business venture as we take our first steps in this important European market. A huge thank you to all the teams who worked to bring this project to life and we’re so pleased to be welcoming our Italian colleagues to the SSP family.”

Sebastien De Rose, chief operating officer of Grandi Stazioni Retail said: “The arrival of SSP in Italy at Rome Termini Station demonstrates the attractiveness and the value of our stations for big international brands. For our visitors, moreover, it is a chance to know the new trends of foreign cuisine.”
