Las Iguanas is to open at Sheffield Meadowhall, after taking over the unit previously occupied by Chilango, the London-based Mexican burrito chain, which has pulled out of the site, M&C Report has learnt. The Latin American restaurant chain, which is owned by Bowmark Capital, is expected to open at the shopping centre later this year. The 23-strong chain is looking to ramp up its presence in the North East and Scotland, after recently securing a unit in Newcastle. It is also thought to be targeting locations in Edinburgh and York. The Meadowhall site will see the company exceed its target of opening four restaurants this year. It opened in Cardiff’s Mermaid Quay in May, and is also set to open in Kingston and at the Stratford Westfield shopping centre later this summer. The group plans to roll out its new look to all its new outlets this year. Property advisor Insight Retail acted on behalf of Las Iguanas. Smith Young Partnership and Davis Coffer Lyons advised the landlords. The disposal of the Meadowhall unit leaves Chilango with four sites in Chancery Lane, Fleet Street, Islington and Bluewater, Kent, and will allow the group to concentrate on its South East-based estate. The chain, which was founded by Eric Partaker and Dan Houghton, hopes to make further additions to its estate in central London this year and is believed to have two sites currently under offer.
