Simon King, who stood down as managing director of Burger & Lobster earlier this summer, has begun his new role at Alshaya, where he will oversee the growth of Shake Shack across the Middle East, Turkey, Russia and the UK.

As revealed in June, King has become vice president Shake Shack for the international franchisee.

He joined Burger & Lobster in April 2014 after 27 years with Mitchells & Butlers (M&B). He leaves Burger & Lobster whilst it in the midst of a period of consolidation.

In July, Jason Thomas, formerly of ASK Italian, joined Shake Shack, the US better burger brand, as its new managing director for its UK operation.

Shake Shack currently operates four sites in the UK, with further units secured in Coventry Street near Leicester Square and the Nova development in Victoria for openings later this year.

It is believed to also be in advanced talks to take the Canteen restaurant in Canada Square, Canary Wharf.
