James Martin Kitchen, the restaurant, café and bakery concept from high-profile chef James Martin, has begun its expansion with the opening of its second site and secured a further two locations, MCA understands.

Following the launch of its first site at Stansted Airport last year in partnership with SSP the concept opened its second unit with the travel food concession operator at Glasgow this week.

MCA understands that it has lined up a further site at Manchester’s Piccadilly station and also its first shopping centre opening, which will open at the Lakeside shopping scheme in Thurrock next month.

Last year, Simon Smith, chief executive of SSP in UK and Ireland, told MCA that he expected to open two sites under the format in 2016 and then to review the concepts expansion potential.

He said no one is doing anything similar to the concept in the travel space currently and having invested time and effort to develop the brand with Martin, SSP will definitely grow the concept.
