The team behind London gastropub group Jam Tree is launching a dim sum and cocktail bar called Fu Manchu in Clapham North, M&C Report understands.

Fu Manchu will be located in railway arches by Clapham High Street and will evoke the style of a Victorian opium den with a modern edge when it opens in May.

Yann Roberts, co-founder of the Jam Tree and Fu Manchu said: “We’re looking forward to bringing something new and exciting to Clapham. Having established the Jam Tree this is the first of several new concepts we hope to deliver to London in the future.”

The bar will serve cocktails be inspired by Asian ingredients and comic book crime as a nod to the graphic novel master criminal Fu Manchu whose name inspired the concept. The food will be dim sum dishes designed for sharing.

Leisure property specialists Davis Coffer Lyons (DCL) handled the sale of Arch 635.

Chris Bickle, associate director at DCL, said: “The Clapham High Street area is one of the most desirable locations in South London and we are constantly receiving enquiries for opportunities. Properties in railway arches are highly sought-after due to relatively low passing rents, unobstructed floor space, free of tie leases and benefitting from late licences. Jam Tree’s exciting vision for the space was clear and we managed to quickly conclude an off-market purchase.”

The group, which is led by Ashley Letchford, Yann Roberts and Sam O’Riordan, also operates Jam Tree pubs in Clapham, Chelsea and Kensington.
