Senkai, the Ignite Group-owned site in Piccadilly, which was heralded as London’s first sustainably-sourced modern Japanese-inspired restaurant, when it opened last year, has closed after going into liquidation. The group said that after seven months of operation Senkai Restaurant Ltd had ceased trading and the company has been placed into creditors’ voluntary liquidation. Duff & Phelps has been appointed to oversee the liquidation process. Ignite said the closure of Senkai would have no impact on the rest of its portfolio. The group, which owns the Bumpkin and Eclipse brands, said it had a positive year to 31 March 2011, despite reporting declines in both Ebitda and pre-tax profit. The company, which was founded by Matt Hermer and Paul Deeming in 2002, operates three Eclipse Bars and three Bumpkin restaurants. The group, which also operates the award-winning Boujis private members club, disposed of its Playtime site in Islington to Cote last year.
