Output from hotels and restaurants fell by 1.4% in the three months to January, according to the ONS.
The drop caused growth in the UK's services sector to slow to a two-and-a-half year low in the period.
The services sector grew by 0.5% in the three months to January, down from 0.7% in the three months to December.
