Underdog Group has secured a fourth site in London for its steakhouse restaurant concept Hawksmoor at Senkai, the former Ignite Group-owned unit in Piccadilly. The group, which is headed by founders Will Beckett and Huw Gott, plans to re-open the Regent Street-based site that was closed after going into liquidation earlier this year, in October. The reopened restaurant will also include a bar. Underdog, which counts Hill Capital, the advisory and investment fund, headed by ex-Clapham House Group chief executive Paul Campbell amongst its investors, reported turnover of £10.6m for the 12 months to 31 December 2011, up from £3.7m the previous year. It currently operates sites in Basinghall Street, Spitalfields and Covent Garden. Senkai was heralded as London’s first sustainably-sourced modern Japanese-inspired restaurant, when it opened last year. At the time, Ignite said that after seven months of operation Senkai Restaurant Ltd had ceased trading and the company has been placed into creditors’ voluntary liquidation. The group said that the closure of Senkai would have no impact on the rest of its portfolio, which includes the Bumpkin and Eclipse brands. Davis Coffer Lyons acted on the Regent Street deal.
