Hard Rock International is planning to open in a new UK flagship site in London’s Piccadilly, MCA has learnt.
The company, which operates c160 Hard Rock Cafes across the 71 countries, including four in the UK, is set to open a site on the lower ground floor of the Criterion Building.
The new opening will include an 85-cover café/restaurant plus retail space selling fashion items (t-shirts/hats etc), memorabilia and other music-inspired items.
Access to the restaurant in the basement will be gained from ground floor level, this will include seating, bar areas and a live music stage. The existing access from the underground will be used as a VIP entrance.
Hard Rock is also seeking permission for the creation of new entrances on Coventry Street and on Haymarket. New shopfronts are also proposed along with external lighting of the facades.
Hard Rick currently operates a site in the capital at 150 Old Park Lane. It also has cafés in Manchester, Glasgow and Edinburgh in the UK.
The UK’s first Hard Rock Hotel is set to open in 2018 after an investment that could reach £50m.
The former Cumberland Hotel in London will be converted into the 900-bedroom Hard Rock Hotel London after Hard Rock International struck a partnership deal with management company glh Hotels.
Scheduled for completion in summer 2018, the new hotel is set to include rock music memorabilia displays and a memorabilia vault, housing some of the brand’s 80,000 historical pieces.
The hotel will also offer a Hard Rock Cafe and a Rock Shop, a full service Rock Spa, plus a signature restaurant and speakeasy. Plans for meeting and event space are still being drawn up, a spokesman said.
Hard Rock International also revealed last year that it planned to open a second UK hotel, in Glasgow.
