The Halal Guys has two more sites under offer as it plans to expand out of London and open sites across the UK.

The first location is a 2,500 sq ft site in High Cross, Leicestershire, the other is 1,500 sq ft site at an unspecified location in Birmingham. The business is only interested in leaseholds.

Sammy Weinbaum, director at Cedar Dean Group (CDG) Leisure, which is scouring sites for the business, said the Leicestershire and Birmingham sites should be open by the end of the year.

Weinbaum, said The Halal Guys would look for sites further afield next year. “The longer-term plans are to continue expanding. The Halal Guys are going nationwide.”

The Halal Guys opened its first UK location, a 3,000 sq ft venue in Leicester Square, in March this year. A second similar sized venue is scheduled to open in Earl’s Court in the second week in August.

Weinbaum said The Halal Guys operation, which is run by franchisee’s Itico F+B in the UK, was trying to expand “strategically” across the UK and has talked about opening 20 outlets over the next five years.

“They had previously wanted to open three or four in London but the demand has been so substantial outside London in Leicester and Birmingham,” he said.

Itico F+B is also progressing its other format, egg specialists Eggslut, with the opening of a site in Portobello Road, west London, in the first week of August.

CDG Leisure has offered a second London site for the format in Shoreditch, which Weinbaum anticipated would open by the end of the year, and it is looking at others in Soho and Covent Garden with a view to opening up to 10 over the next five years in “cool, high-footfall areas.”
