Haidilao, China’s largest hot pot restaurant chain, is to open its first regional site in the UK.

The business currently operates two restaurants in London, and has agreed a deal with Hammerson to launch its third in Birmingham’s Bullring shopping centre early next year.

The 8,073sq ft restaurant will join operators including Brown’s and Wagamama in the centre’s St Martin’s square, serving traditional hot pots, soups, vegetable and noddle dishes.

Founded in 1994 in China’s Sichuan Province, the brand now has over 750 restaurants globally in countries including Thailand, Japan, the US, Canada and Australia.

A Haidilao spokesperson said: “As the UK’s second city, and one with a large multi-cultural population, Birmingham is the ideal location for the first restaurant outside of London.

“In our national expansion plans, the Bullring provides us with the high footfall, strong reputation and central position that we seek.”
