Giraffe, the Tesco-owned restaurant chain, is understood to have lined up a further two openings in Extra superstores in Yeading and Cheam, as Giggling Squid, the fast-growing Thai restaurant chain, lines up to take on its recently closed unit in Horsham.

It is thought that Giggling Squid, which will open its eighth site and first in the Midlands at the end of this month in Stratford-upon-Avon, plans to open at the former Giraffe in Horsham’s East Street around the end of the year. It would become the tenth site secured by the chain.

The Russel Joffe-led Giraffe opened its first in-store site at the Watford Extra in August and will open restaurants in the Extra store near its head office in Cheshunt and its store in Abingdon before the end of the year, as part of plans to open 10 restaurants in stores over the next 12 months.

It is thought that the group is also looking at further standalone openings in Aylesbury and Twickenham for the brand.
