Italian chef and restaurateur Gino D’Acampo has a agreed strategic partnership with Spanish group Meliá Hotels International to open a series of restaurants and bars in its venues.

The collaboration will debut at Meliá’s INNSiDE Manchester with First Street Bar & Kitchen, featuring an outdoor terrace, spritz bar, and an open plan restaurant.

First Street Bar & Kitchen is the first of a number of planned openings with further announcements to be made in the coming weeks.

As well as Manchester, INNSiDE Newcastle is launching on the Quayside on 17 May, and Liverpool on 16 August in the former ECHO building, with further UK sites are planned in 2022.

MCA understands the venture is part of a newly incorporated entity, Gino D’acampo Hotels & Leisure Ltd, which is led managing director Matthew Cunningham, a former brand director and operations director at Individual Restaurants.

D’Acampo has a further eight branded restaurants under his name, which were previously part of the Individual Restaurant Group, but now operate as a standalone entity.

Parts of Individual Restaurant Group, including 28 sites operating under the Piccolino and Restaurant Bar and Grill brands, were sold to Iceland owner Sir Malcom Walker for £17.9m, as part of a pre-pack administration sale.

The Gino group of restaurants were not included as part of the deal as the directors believed they were able to continue to operating on a standalone basis.

INNSiDE by Meliá has hotels in 28 locations across 10 countries with 13 additional properties in the pipeline.
