German Doner Kebab will open 47 new restaurants in the UK this year, doubling its estate and creating 1,800 jobs.

Last year, the fast-casual brand opened 12 new sites, hitting its 50-restaurant milestone with an opening in Peterborough in December.

Key new locations in 2020 included Nottingham, Bradford and additional sites in London and Edinburgh, and the business is now looking to rollout in the likes of Manchester, Newcastle, and Glasgow.

Further sites in London, as well as openings in Blackburn, Huddersfield, Stockport and Stirling are also planned for this year.

To lead on its expansion, former Nandos UK project manager Rich Collie has joined the business as head of project management.

German Doner Kebab reported significant sales last year, with year-on-year total sales up 81%, and same-store sales up 51% compared to 2019.

Now employing over 1500 people throughout the country, the business plans to open a pipeline of 350 franchise units over the next seven years, and further growth is set to be announced in the US, Canada, Ireland, Europe and Saudi Arabia.

“The next 12 months are going to be extremely exciting for German Doner Kebab as we expand our footprint and reach more consumers across the UK and our international growth regions,” said CEO Imran Sayeed.

“We have developed strong franchise relationships in key global locations and we are now working closely with our partners to take forward development plans and bring the German Doner Kebab experience to new regions.”
