Gail’s is to roll out compostable and biodegradable coffee cups across its c40 strong estate of bakery outlets this week.

The move follows other sustainable measure introduced this year, including switching plastic straws for paper versions and buying biodegradable disposable cutlery made of potato starch.

The new coffee cups are lined with BioPBS – which is made from sugar cane waste and is biodegradable and compostable at room temperature.

The business said it has “poured hours of research, thought and discussion”, this year, into sustainability measures.
