Food Fund International, the hospitality group founded by one of South Africa’s most prolific restauranteurs, Costa Tomazos, is in advanced talks to open a site in City of London, MCA understands.

The company, which opened steakhouse concept Meat Co. in Westfield Shepherd’s Bush in 2008, is in talks to open a second site in the capital at 27-32 Old Jewry. It is thought that the new site will house both a Meat Co. unit and the group’s Eat Greek format.

The group currently operates eight Meat Co. sites, including five in Dubai and two in South Africa.

It also operates two Eat Greek sites in Dubai.

Food Fund International also operates the brands Bentley, Tribes, Ribs and Rumps, Inyama and Woodchuck across the Middle East, Australia and Greece.

Tomazos, the chairman of Food Fund International, started his F&B experience in the 1970s by opening one of the first steakhouse chains in South Africa.

The company said: “As chairman, Costa focuses on the strategic development of the group, combining all the elements of sound financial management with an exceptional amount of entrepreneurial flair, and consistently delivers viable concepts and solutions within the food industry – growing the Food Fund portfolio year on year, identifying new and exciting opportunities, and bringing them to life.”
