Five Guys, the popular US better burger chain, is set to open its first two sites in the North East in the next couple of months, after securing a site in Newcastle.

The 40-strong group, which also has openings in Watford, London’s King’s Cross and Birmingham lined up for the first quarter, will open on the former Vision Express unit in Newcastle’s Northumberland Street and at the Metro Centre in Gateshead.

The company, which will make its debut in Spain later this year, after securing a site in Madrid, hopes to open up to 30 sites in the UK this year and has already secured sites in The Lighthouse development on Pentonville Road, King’s Cross; the former Que Pasa site in Watford and the former Shimla Pinks site in Birmingham.

Five Guys UK is also looking at further opportunities in Exeter, Luton and Aberdeen.
