Popular South London restaurant Ransome’s Dock has been sold to new farm-to-table concept Source for £110k.

Ransome’s Dock, which is located just off Battersea Bridge Road, was first opened in 1992 by Martin and Vanessa Lam and is commonly referred to as the blueprint for the neighbourhood restaurant.

The 2,000sq ft restaurant has been acquired by husband and wife team Johan and Elsa De Jager, with an opening planned for later this year.

Although the restaurant continued to trade successfully the Lam’s decided to close after 21 years to allow them some time off. The restaurant will close in August.

Josh Leon, associate director at DCL, which acted on the sale, said: “Ransome’s Dock is in a lovely location which has recently seen more demand from restaurateurs and bar operators since the surrounding area has become an ‘overspill’ for those who would have previously lived and gone out in Chelsea. It’s just over the bridge so easy to get to but prices are much lower.

“There are also the longer term plans for Nine Elms just to the east so we expect to see a further spike in demand over the course of the year. There is however a serious lack of good quality existing stock in this area and new A3 planning consents remain in short supply.”
